MORE ON THE PROGRAM
The wife prepared a ham for dinner for her new husband. When they sat down to eat, the husband noticed that the end of the ham, his favorite part, had been cut off. He asked his new bride why she had cut the end of the ham off? She replied “I don’t know, my mother always did it that way”. Somewhat baffled by this, he decided to ask his mother-in-law why she always cut the end off of the the ham when she prepared it. She replied “Well, I really never gave it any thought but, I do remember that my mother did it that way and she taught me to cook. Intent on solving this, the husband went to his wife’s grandmother hoping to finally solve this mystery. He asked grandma “Can you please tell me why you always cut off the end of the ham when you prepared it for your family?” Grandma quickly replied, “Son I didn’t have a pan large enough to bake the ham in so I had to cut off the end to fit the pan!!”
How many generations have just accepted the ideas and practices passed down from others? Do you just remain in the program because it’s what every Christian does? Do you attend church because it makes you feel good that you’ve met some requirement?
Could it be that generations of “what you are supposed to do” have caused you to settle into a mindset of “if I need to know anything my pastor will let me know”?
Allow me to share with you a common misconception in religious circles.
Every Christmas season you see manger scenes in front of churches. They include Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus, some animals, and the Wise men.
Did you know that there were NO WISE MEN at the manger scene? You may be thinking….I don’t know about that! So, who will you believe? Me or a mindset from generations of religious example? I suggest that you choose neither! Why would you when you can go straight to the Word of God and find out for YOURSELF!
Hopefully you will today. Unless of course, you choose to stick with the PROGRAM!
