I was raised not to question authority so it was not difficult for me to practice that same thinking with those who taught me the Word of God.
After all, they were instructing me in spiritual matters. I adhered to this programmed principle with those in authority as long as they lived what they taught. I lived with confidence when they did not breech this trust they had established with me.
This is what I like to refer to as, THE PROGRAM.
(Now trust is wonderful and needed in life but, what you trust and believe in must line up with the rightly divided Word of God.)
Some might identify this as “THE WAY I WAS RAISED”
Whatever you label it, we have all been programmed from birth with an outline of ideas or teachings. We believe these to be the cornerstone or foundation of what is right.
One of the first things we are programmed to believe in is FEAR. You are not born with this, you have to be taught to fear. When you would get too close to the heater, Mom would say “no no, that will burn you”. This was good parenting when you were a child however, as a teenager, you would be laughed at if you were afraid to be in a room with a heater in it!
Some people still fear the heater! They are more tuned to how it can harm them, than the comfort it can bring.
I believe many have been taught by trusted teachers and they live in settled comfort. Their beliefs are “locked down” and they don’t want to re-address them. After all, the fear of admitting that what they have believed might be wrong, or incomplete, is admitting that you don’t know what you thought you knew!
Especially when those beliefs have been compounded with traces of truth. Fear can be very unsettling.
While we are on the subject of fear, lets expound on the power of this little 4-letter word! FEAR is the opposite FAITH. Fear is the raw material of the things you DON’T desire. The Bible says that fear has torment.
1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
There are many that are in the same position as Paul described in Romans 10:2,3
2 For I bear them record that they have a ZEAL of God, but not according to knowledge.
ZEAL-excitement of mind, ardour, fervour of spirit, ardour in embracing, pursuing, defending anything.
PAUL IS SAYING…..IT IS POSSIBLE TO BE EXCITED, HAVE A FERVENT SPIRIT, EMBRACE WITH SINCERITY, AND BE READY TO DEFEND……..AND STILL NOT HAVE THE CORRECT KNOWLEDGE OF GOD!
Sincerely dedicated to defend teachings and ideas that are “sincerely wrong”! I call this THE PROGRAM.
For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, (THE PROGRAM) have not SUBMITTED themselves unto the righteousness of God.
SUBMITTED-This word was a Greek military term meaning “to arrange [troop divisions] in a military fashion under the command of a leader”.
The word “Righteousness” is from the Greek word “DIKAIOSYNE” which means-
the doctrine concerning the way in which man may attain a state approved of God.
Integrity, virtue, purity of life, rightness, correctness of thinking feeling, and acting
The leader and only true authority that we are to submit to is the RIGHT WAY OF THINKING according to GOD and HIS WORD!
What PROGRAM or who’s PROGRAM are you in today?
I know a lot about programs. It was only after I started studying the WORD of GOD on my own, that I questioned my settled beliefs. It is your responsibility to rightly divide the Word of God and come to a conclusion. It is “true” righteousness that we hunger and thirst for!
Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
